Customs Information

Visitors aged over 18 are allowed to bring 1125ml of alcohol and 250 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco into Australia without paying import duties. You are also allowed to import up to A$400 of other goods such as cameras, electronic goods etc which have been purchased duty free.

The duty free limit for travellers aged under 18 is $200.

Like many other countries, you are not allowed to bring weapons, steriods or many drugs into Australia.

Quarantine

Because of Australia's relatively isolated location, it is free of many pests and diseases which plague other countries. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service is extremely vigilant about keeping these pests out of Australia.

You will have to declare any food and animal or plant products that you have with you and most unpackaged food will not be allowed into the country. Quarantine officers will also check for dirty boots or shoes as well as camping equipment which may contain dirt that may introduce pests and diseases into Australia. You will also be questioned if you have visited a farm or engaged in any outdoor activity or if you have visited certain African or South American countries within the past week.
