Leithfeild
National Park is a must see for everyone visiting the NT. We hear that it
rivals Kakadu with its waterfalls and croc-free swimming holes. Clearly marked
walking tracks make hiking easier and if you are intending on camping you
will need to see the rangers centre for a permit and it’s always a good idea
to pick up maps of the areas you intend on visiting.
If
you can stand the heat, Douglas Hot Springs might cure you at 40 degrees Celsius
its warm on an already warm day. You can travel by car, tour or 4WD to Butterfly
Gorge for a swim in one of the many rock pools and if you like, camp overnight
at the Springs.
There
is nothing more picturesque than Katherine Gorge and the magnitude of this amazing place can be appreciated from on high or below.
Lush vegetation clings to rugged cliffs towering above the Katherine
River as it zigzags its way through
the 12km gorge. Take a helicopter flight up the gorge, enjoy the view from
the lookouts or alternatively you can hire a canoe for the day. Cruises are
also available so if you're not ready to clamber up and over boulders why
not let someone else do all the hard work?
