Lake Eyre is the largest lake in Australia, the thirteenth largest in the world and the largest salt lake in the world. This year it is predicted that the lake could hold up to 20 cubic kilometres of water. A volume equivalent to 40 times the volume of Sydney Harbour.

Brief Itinerary 5 Day Tour
Day 1. We depart Adelaide at around 8.00 am and travel via Two Wells - Mallala - Balaklava - Blyth to Brinkworth., then on through Yacka to Gladstone where we visit the historic Gladstone Gaol.  Next stop at Beetaloo Reservoir for lunch and a look around before heading to Quorn via Laura - Wirrabara - Murray Town - Melrose - Willmington - Hancocks Lookout (a brief stop) and the Mt. Brown Creek track. At Quorn we have afternoon tea then move on to Hawker - Mt. Little and Hookina Creek- our overnight camp site.

Day 2. Historic Beltana, Sliding Rock Mine for some exploration and then north to Copley. This is our morning tea stop and the specialty of the bakery is Kangaroo and Claret pies and suggest a Quandong (wild peach) pie purchase for desert. Next stop is Lyndhurst; the junction of Strzelecki and Birdsville tracks and the gateway to the desert region.

In this area we take a look at the museum of "Talc Alf" a bush character who carves talc rock for the tourists for a living and who has many stories to tell. We then inspect the old Farina Ruins before moving on to Marree; the junction of Birdsville and Oodnadatta tracks. We will visit Hergot Springs before setting up camp on Muloorina Station.

Day 3. We are priviledged to cross the Goyder Channel between Lake Eyre North and South and explore this infrequently visited area of the Lake under the guidance of the Muloorina Station Manager, on whose property we shall be travelling. This is a LIMITED OPPORTUNITYfor only 20 vehicles this year. A 7am start sees us cross the causeway over Goyder Channel and head for Prominent Hill overlooking Belt Bay, on the way passing through Jackboot Bore. Our lunch stop is near Bonython Headland on a beautiful shell beach right on the edge of Lake Eyre.

It's then off to Camel Canyon where years of erosion have sculpted an unearthly moonscape. Most of this travelling is on rough bush tracks or shotlines. The finale is the magnificent vistas of Jackboot Bay with the sun reflecting off azure blue waters. We return to camp around 6.30pm after a full and breathtaking day to an unforgetable Muloorina sunset.

Day 4. This morning we refuel at Marree then head up the Oodnadatta Track to the junction with the Borefield Track. Here we turn south and travel to Olympic Dam where we will try and get a tour of the site. There may be additional costs for this. It's then on to Roxby Downs, the town that was specifically built to service the needs of the mine workers. here you can purchase lunch if you wish. From here we travel to Woomera and look for an overnight campsite.

Day 5. This morning we head for Port Augusta our final destination. At Port Augusta we visit The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens and take their informative tour. Then to the Wadlata Outback Centre (Winner of 6 State Tourism Awards). It is here after lunch (for which we pick up the tab) that our tour ends.
