This place has it all. Definitely one of the hotspots in the world as far as backpacking goes. You will experience weird, wild and wacky occurrences all before lunchtime on your first day.

Established by surfers and hippies back in the 70's, this place is truly unique. As far as surf goes you wont' find much better, and there are enough surf companies there to look after everybody. If that's not your bag then check out a tour to the famous little town of Nimbin (a Rastafarians heaven on earth). 

Byron is also famous for it's dolphin and whale watching activity, where you can view all from the lighthouse (Australia's most easterly point), or jump in a sea kayak and paddle out amongst them. Whatever your choice you will come away with a smile from ear to ear.
