Journey by express train from Sydney to the Blue Mountains for a peep
at life beyond the Harbour and sandy beaches of Bondi or Manly. You
will pass through the Western Suburbs of Sydney where you will occasionally
see graffiti covered walls at train stations and view Australian
suburbia close to the core. An hour later and you're at the base of
the Blue Mountains and happy that you came. It is a scenic journey through
historic towns and endless bushland until your arrival at Katoomba,
the biggest town in the Blue Mountains. You will find vintage clothing
stores, antique shops, coffee houses and historic mansions.
Walk to Echo Point approx 2km away, takes you to the look-out to view
the Three Sisters, so named after an Aboriginal dreamtime fable about
a father who turned his daughters to stone to keep them from harm. The
Three Sisters are at the top of the Giant Stairway which leads you to
the base of the valley where you can venture along a variety of walking
tracks or take the Scenic Railway. The Skyway is another alternative
to view the gorge and so as not to blow the surprise, check it out!
You can walk from Katoomba to the magnificent Jenolan Caves (if you
have a few days). Situated in a nature reserve they are renowned for
their size and beauty.
