Perth is Western Australia's capital city. This is a great spot to use as a base as you explore the southern regions. It has everything. Long white sandy beaches, nightlife, great live music venues, cafes and plenty of tours and activities. (It is also said to enjoy more hours of sunshine than any other capital city in Australia).

Rottnest Island is a great place to relax and swim and cure the hangover blues from the nights out in Perth. You can also scuba dive, snorkel and surf  here. Access is by a short ferry trip from the mainland. 

If you would like to get around and see some of the great sights that Perth city has to offer you can hire a bike or  hire a car to get out and see some of the best wineries in Australia.

This region also has some of Australia has some of the most spectacular sunsets, and there is nothing better than a late afternoon surf or swim while you watch the sun disappear.
