It is not called the Great Ocean Road for no reason at all. It would be hard to imagine any visitor to the southern Australian State of Victoria not driving the Great Ocean Road, which is one of Australia's most scenic roadways. A simply magnificent and at times breathtaking 243 kilometer stretch of road that meanders along the south east coast of the southern Australian State of Victoria.
The Great Ocean Road runs between the two large Victorian country towns of Torquay and Warrnambool that offer a plentiful supply of cheap and affordable backpacker accommodation for those that want to embark on the Great Ocean Road adventure. Many people choose to hire a motor vehicle or a motor cycle to solely tour the Great Ocean Road.
At times, the Great Ocean road tightly hugs and meanders around mountains and steep cliff faces, whilst on the other side there are the breathtaking views of the magnificent Southern Ocean and Bass Straight that separates the Australian mainland from Tasmania.
There are many interesting sites dotted along the entire length of the Great Ocean Road, such as the Twelve Apostles, the Island Archway, The Blowhole and the Grotto. There are also numerous secluded bays along the length of the Great Ocean Road.
