Margaret River

Any wine connoisseur would have undoubtedly heard of Margaret River in the Australian State of Western Australia. Some wine enthusiasts argue that some of the best wine in the world, particularly red wine, comes from this region. Margaret River is not only famous for its great wines, but for its magnificent surf beaches and caves too. At approximately sixty kilometers long, the river flows directly into the Indian Ocean on the west coast of Australia. The rich fertile soils and climate make the region perfect for the growing of grapes, which in turn produces some truly magnificent Australian wines that are known all around the world.

Many backpackers who visit Western Australia make the pilgrimage to Margaret River as the vineyards offer seasonal employment for grape pickers. Some of the vineyards even offer accommodation to those who pick grapes, but there is also a large supply of cheap good quality accommodation too.

Margaret River is just under three hundred kilometers south of the state capital, Perth, and easy accessible by car or one of the many buses that leave from Perth. This is one of Western Australia's most famous tourist attractions, where more than half a million people visit Margaret River every year
