Here the untouched wilderness of the highlands meets with
coastal rainforests, providing the traveller with an unexpected blend
of mountains and sea. The south coast offers more than 10 National parks
including Jervis Bay Marine National Park and is renowned for the whitest
sand beaches in the world - the waters of this coastal area also provide
many of Australias finest restaurants with oysters like no other waters
can.
Wollongong boasts Australia’s largest regional Art Gallery and the largest Buddhist Temple in the southern hemisphere, the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple which is open to the public. Again you have a range of available activities and many interesting places to see, from hang gliding with HangglideOz at Bald Hill or a visit to The Kiama Blowhole, which sprays water hundreds of metres into the air through two rock caverns. Other picturesque places to visit include The Kangaroo Valley, Fitzroy Falls, Wombeyan Limestone Caves and Shellharbour. Lake Illawarra is popular for sailboarding and other water activities such as snorkelling are recommended at Bushrangers Bay.
