There are 52 islands in the 'Furneaux group'
which lie off the North West Coast of Tasmania, of which Flinders is the
largest. Unlike the islands of the Whitsundays you will find an abundance
of native wildlifeand have the chance to see life through a locals
eyes. Sheep graze in nearby farmlandand their wool is used to
produce snuggly socks, scarf's, gloves and hats (and anything else that
can be knitted), a nice pressie to take home for mum or dad or a cold
weather treat for yourself.
You can take a boat tour of the islands or admire
life from below the surface with a dive tour where you will also see
reefs, shipwrecks and abundant sealife which is only found in these
waters. A walk through Strzelecki National Parkor along Trousers
point Beach will give you an opportunity for some peaceful reflection
and fantastic photographs to take home. Alternatively you can travel
around the island on 4WD Tour or by motorbike and in the early evening
watch the sunset over Bass Strait from Walkers Lookout. The view from
Vinegar Hillto the nearby islands is spectacular.
