Tamar River, Low Head, George Town, Tenth Island
The quiet waters of the Tamar River wind for 58km
through orchards, vineyards, wetlands and the dense rainforest that meets
with the sea. Travel along
the river where fairy penguins nest in the scrub and on a nearby island,
fur seals breed. On the banks of the Tamar are the villages
of Low Head and Georgetown both rich in the nostalgia of early settlement
days. National Trust Buildings sit on manicured lawns and to the
east white washed shanty's stare out to sea .
You will be surprised to find riverside towns with sandy beaches and the vineyards are an impressive site with rows of vines covering entire hillsides save the area around the family homestead. Many of Australia's best wines have been produced here and we think you will be grateful for a taste of one or three. Cross the Tamar on the Batman Bridge to George Town and then catch a boat from here to visit the seal colony on Tenth Island, or visit a local farm and pick blue berries to drop whilst ballooning over a lighthouse. Crazy stuff, but its your holiday so make the most
of it!
