Irish tourist thrown from backpacker van in Victoria dies
June 18, 2011 10:13PM | AAP

AN Irishwoman has died after being thrown from a mini-van packed with backpackers when it rolled over in country Victoria.

The Nissan mini-van with eight backpackers on board had pulled over to the lefthand side of a road at Kenley, near Swan Hill, so a truck travelling in the opposite direction could pass.

Police say the van hit some gravel and the driver lost control.

The 28-year-old Irishwoman and a 25-year-old woman were ejected from the van as it rolled.

The 28-year-old died at the scene while the other woman was taken to Swan Hill Hospital with serious injuries.

The other five passengers, all men, were treated by ambulance officers at the scene.

The accident, about 5pm (AEST) today, took Victoria's road toll to 143, compared with 136 at the same time last year.

Sending our love and prayers for the injured woman in this incident.  Wishing you a quick and full recovery. Kissed

Also, our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the young lady killed.  No-one expects their child, sister, wife, mother, aunt, best mate, etc., to be the victim of an incident such as this. Sorry

A serious reminder to anyone on holiday anywhere (with no insinuations about the reported incident): Please drive carefully and be sensible and have patience everyone; life is very precious and we hope that you safely enjoy and survive your trip down under.  Don't take risks ... please. Scare

We appreciate our guests from all over Australia and around the world.  Use your common sense, stay safe and have a ball! wub
