Go to Kings Cross. They've got heaps of bars set up for backpackers and it's really popular with UK folk. Just check into any backpackers hostel and I guarantee you that they'll hook you up with where to go! There are bars right in the city centre and some good clubs down near Darling Harbour. Or you can go up to Oxford St.

I'm not so sure about Kings Cross - it's a bit dodgy these days. Maybe try the city clubs first like Three Monkey's on George St, or Cargo Bar or something down by the water. Still backpacker hangouts but not nearly as full as horrid strip clubs and SPAM SPAM SPAM - I'm an idiot for trying this here on this board shops. Unless of course that's what you want to stumble onto in your first night in Sydney!

I would also say that the Cargo Bar might be more suitable for the first night in Sydney.

yeah definitely head down to darling harbour where you will get a good variety of clubs and pubs.. would be much nicer on your first night... kings x can get quite seedy and may skew your view on sydney after just 1 night.
