Hi,

I'm planning to do a bit of travel around rural Australia and see what it's really like. Problem is i'm going by myself and i've heard you can often get picked for fights in that situation. It would be great if people could give me details on their experiences in rural Australia, especially if they've travelled by themselves.

Cheers,

G'day Jimsy and welcome aboard.  ;D

Rural Australia, like many countries, has a tendency to be far more friendly than the cities and generally has less crime.

The usual precautions should be taken: don't 'pick' fights/arguments, be aware of your surroundings, gangs of either youths or aboriginals, etc., and you'll be fine.  In my experience, the rural townships are great places and people (both 'black' and 'white') will often go out of their way to help/advise you.

I've driven almost the full length of the east coast on my own and have crossed the Nullarbor (Perth to Brisbane) with older parents and have never heard of any trouble, let alone encountered it.

Like everywhere these days, Australia has its fair share of crime and 'incidents' but, given a sensible and friendly attitude, it's a lot better than many other countries I've visited and/or lived in!

You don't state your age-group but a mature outlook, a bit of patience and good manners will take you far.  Wink
