G'day Jamie and welcome to the Backpacker Tours forums. Hi

Your questions are many and there's heaps involved.  Firstly, where are you coming from and how long for?  Are you fluent in the English language? (This will help us to help you!)  Also, when are you planning on starting your trip?  Cairns is very hot between November and February and the further you go south the less humidity and heat you will encounter, as a general rule.

I'd suggest that your best bet is to ask specific questions to get the answers you're looking for.  It doesn't matter how 'daft' some questions may seem; if it helps you, that's what we're aiming to do. Wink

Regarding backpack size, obviously the smaller (lighter in weight), the better!  What to bring will depend a little bit upon the length of time and what time of year you plan on being here.  I'm happy to answer whatever questions you have and, if you can give me a basic plan outline, I can help some more with various suggestions. Grin
