Lucky to be alive
Sunshine Coast Daily | Nikkii Joyce | 26th January 2010

One of two Irish backpackers had his fingers amputated in a three-vehicle crash at Cooloola Cove.

The two men were in a vehicle being towed by another car on Rainbow Beach Road about 4.05pm when their car verged on to the wrong side of the road.  It collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

One of the backpackers lost several fingers from one hand in the crash, while the other suffered a fractured leg.

Both men were airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle received minor injuries and was taken to Gympie Hospital.
