Airlie Beach Travel Information

The best way to describe Airlie Beach is that it is the backpackers own personal gateway to the magnificent Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef and some of the greatest Queensland tours. Located approximately 1120 kilometers north of Brisbane on the east coast of Australia, it is the traditional resting place of many backpackers who have made the long trip up from New South Wales. Those traveling to Airle Beach either catch a bus from Brisbane, or budget airlines offer cheap flights to the nearby town of Proserpine, which is only a short thirty minute drive away. From Proserpine, you can then catch a bus directly to Airle Beach.

The main road that runs through Airle Beach has dozens of inexpensive backpacker accommodation options which are an excellent option if you're in need of Whitsundays Accommodation. There are also dozens of cheap eateries, all that seem to cater exclusively for the budget traveler in mind. Most pubs offer live bands on the weekend, and discount food and drinks to cater for the backpackers. Just because you are on a budget, this does certainly not exclude the visitor to Airle Beach from exploring the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. There are literally dozens of Airlie beach tour operators that offer inexpensive sailing tours to the inner and outer reefs. In fact, the costs are comparable to what you would pay for land accommodation, and they also include three meals a day and free use of the snorkeling gear.
