The Murray Valley is a fertile stretch of land along the Murray River and one the major town here is Albury/ Wodonga. These twin towns straddle the river and are the diving point between NSW and Vic and are a popular resting spot for travelers between Sydney and Melbourne. Being such a large centre there is plenty of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets and there is no end to the choices of places to shop with large shopping centres and smaller boutique style shops dotting the streets. There are numerous restaurants and cafes as well as the usual multi- national fast food outlets.
When it comes to things to do you will not have time to do them all without settling here for an extended stay. The Hume Weir provides water sports of all kinds with swimming, water skiing, sailing and fishing. There are galleries, art and craft shops and displays, museums and many opportunities to take guided tours such as wine tasting tours to the local wineries.
Echuca is another large centre in the Murray Valley with all the same amenities as Albury/Wodonga. Canoeing, swimming and fishing are all popular here and you can ride the paddle-steamers on the Murray River. There are many different cruises you can take including a guided trip by boat of Barmah Forest which has earned the name ‘Kakadu of the South’. There are plenty of bushwalking trails to be explores either alone or on a guided tour.
Yarrawonga and Mulwala are two towns on the banks of Lake Mulwala. These towns are joined by a bridge and form a large community. This inland aquatic paradise offer opportunities to partake in many forms of water sport including swimming, waterskiing and boating. There are great river beaches and many aquatic birds come here and make the area home. Other things to do in this area include wine tasting, bushwalking, cycling, visiting the many museums and galleries or partake in some retail therapy.
The Murray Valley area has many other attractions such has hot air ballooning, sky diving, horse riding and there are many wildlife parks and amusement parks dotted around the region.
