Pilbara Travel Information

Part of the northern area of Western Australia is known as the Pilbara and here you can see some of the oldest landscape in the world and stretching over 400,000 km. these landscapes are thought to be around 2 billion years old. Bring your camera to capture some of the most beautiful wild scenery on earth  with whiter than white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, peaceful pools and coral gardens and then huge rocky canyons and beautiful national parks with diverse flora and fauna. National parks of note in this area include Karijini, Millstream Chichester and Rudall National Parks all with their own special features yet all breathtakingly beautiful.

Diving, snorkeling, boating and fishing are popular pastimes and you can see turtles nesting, observe many different species of fish and see some amazing coral and sea grasses. Between March and October a natural event known as Staircase to the Moon occurs, this is where the rising full moon reflects on the mudflats at low tide and creates the illusion of a staircase leading up to the moon. This is really something to see. The Pilbara is also rich in Aboriginal Heritage with many archaeological sites to see with many being heritage listed.

There are some very interesting towns to visit that are home to great WA tours such as Dampier, Karratha and pioneering settlements such as Point Samson Peninsula and the well known mining town of Port Headland. Further inland there in Tom Price and the hottest place in Australia, Marble Bar. Enjoy scenic flights, 4WDs, cruises down the waterways and bird watching as well as getting close to the many animals in the region. Take a Spiritual Tour and experience the feeling when visiting many of the Aboriginal Sacred Sites and explore the conservation area both coastal and inland.

There are many places to eat in the towns around and some great local markets where you can enjoy local produce such as freshly caught seafood, mangoes and some ’bush tucker’. Enjoy a range of accommodation options from camping under the stars to full resort facilities and everything in between.
