Any visitor to Melbourne should certainly visit the beautiful Yarra Valley. Whereas Margaret River in Western Australia is well known for its famous red wines, the Yarra Valley on the east coast of Australia in the State of Victoria is equally well known for their great wine producing region as well. The region produces some of the world's finest Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Sparkling Wines, and Yarra Valley wines have a reputation of being some of the finest white wines in the world. Yarra Valley wines are exported to all four corners of the world.
The Yarra Valley is situated only 80 kilometers east of Melbourne, and as such it can easily be visited in a day. Affordable country style bed and breakfasts are ideal for the 2 or 3 day getaway, and most offer some terrific last minute deals and stunning Yarra Valley tours. Apart from the great vineyards, there are many nature walks, splendid antique stores and art galleries. As the Yarra Valley is a dominant grape growing region, many of the vineyards are always looking for seasonal workers during the grape picking season, and this attracts many backpackers in search of cheap Victoria accommodation and some extra money to continue their travels to other fascinating locations around Australia.
