The jumping on point for most of the sailing trips in the Whitsundays is Airlie Beach – a backpacker haven!! You can fly to Proserpine, the airport for Airlie Beach from most Australian cities with low cost carriers like Jetstar or Virgin or you can come up the coast by bus with a Greyhound Bus Pass.
Most sailing trips in this region depart from the new marina located in Airlie Beach. There is plenty of backpacker accommodation in town, lots of pubs serving cheap pub food, not to mention numerous beers on tap.
Sailing trips vary from one night to 4 or 5 on all styles of sail boats. Some sail boats with only 4 guests and others with 30 or 40. Accommodation on the sail boats varies from bunks in dorms to private cabins with private facilities. Most trips include all meals and some activities.
